I came across Katrin’s work whilst browsing the Goethe-Institut website. I am pretty obsessed with the concept of en-masse design. I know it isn’t anything particularly unique these days, but I still love it. Stuff en-masse almost always looks great and is super evocative. Anyway, it seems to be a bit about what she’s about. I do adore images like these. I think I feel drawn to them because they are the kind of thing that is a real super challenge to replicate in a theatrical context. These magical fantasy worlds are the creative work of Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez. Before I start on this rant, let me say that I am going to try to be as objective as possible regarding my definition of “good” and “bad” theatre. I am very choosy with theatre that I see and there are often very specific things that need to be fulfilled in order for me, personally, to consider it of good quality. That said, I think that maybe I can try to define what I mean by “bad” theatre in a way that many might agree with.

My internet is being a piece of shit today, so I’m not able to research this particular artist as much as I would like to (as his website takes up too much bandwidth). It seems that he is an all-round designer, and I haven’t yet looked at his furniture/object stuff, but his LIGHT FIXTURES! Oh, his light fixtures! They are truly beautiful. The Company: A Video of Light
The Company was a lighting installation made of 76 tungsten lamps that formed a catenary arch. It was commissioned by NYC’s Bring to Light festival earlier this month and used as a backdrop for artistic performances.
Located at a former East River industrial area, the installation reflected an architectural legacy, like a machine delivered to occupy what was once a bustling industrial environment.
The project was completed by creative coder Andrea Cuius and designer Roland Ellis.
