Nicola is a Melbourne-based lighting designer for theatre and installation. She has recently completed her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts and now works as a freelance lighting designer.
Nicola’s passion lies in finding ways to seamlessly integrate space and light, resulting in a world in which stories can be told and dreams can be realised.
As well as a freelance lighting designer and a casual staff member of the Malthouse Theatre lighting department, Nicola is currently the Co-Artistic Director of a new multi-disciplinary performance group called Present Tense.
Recent lighting design work include THE FURY (Union House Theatre), MEMMIE LE BLANC (Union House Theatre), UNDINE (4Larks, with Tom Willis), CHANTS DES CATACOMBES (Present Tense), NO PLACE LIKE (Union House Theatre), SONG OF THE BLEEDING THROAT (11th Hour Theatre, with Niklas Pajanti). Nicola has been mentored by lighting designers Nick Schlieper on RICHARD III (MTC), Niklas Pajanti on THE LIFE AND DEATH OF KING JOHN (11th Hour Theatre) and Paul Jackson on SAPPHO (Malthouse Theatre) and his undertaken extensive work experience with architectural lighting company ELECTROLIGHT.
Nicola’s range of interests include photography, exploring beautiful Melbourne, hiking, snowboarding, playing and listening to all kinds of music, travel, and sitting reading in the sun.
